FAMILY, LOVE, FAMILY, LOVE, FAMILY, LOVE
A little over a year ago Maria (the MOB) contacted me to set up an engagement session for her daughter Ali and fiance' Craig. We met at Nissley Vineyards and Winery Estate in Bainbridge, PA. It was a beautiful morning. I think we all were a bit nervous at the beginning. Before that morning we hadn't met each other.
It was my first engagement session at a venue I had never been before and then add the awkwardness of two people showing their love and affection in front of a stranger. Not to mention, Maria (the MOB) grew up with my husband, so I felt the added pressure to do my best. And, when I met Craig, I realized that I have known his mother (Samantha) and step father (Mike, he is my dentist) for years (I have worked along side both Samantha and Mike at many St. Joseph Home and School Association events) Now the pressure was really on. Thankfully, it didn't take long before the nervousness went away. It was strange, I felt like I had known them forever.
Besides Ali and Craig, coming along for the photo session was Maria (MOB), Julia (SOB, sister of the bride) and her boyfriend. The venue was beautiful. The weather was spectacular. We took pictures all over the estate. With each photo, I saw the love that bonds Ali and Craig together.
After the session I was asked to photograph their wedding. I wasn't sure if I could do it. You see, this would be my first "real" wedding. You know, the 20 something couple, church ceremony, big reception. I have photographed a few other weddings, but not for a couple this young. That's a lot of pressure. You can't redo a wedding if something goes wrong.
I told them I would have to think about it.
Not long after that day, Maria contacted me and asked if I made a decision. I wanted to say no because I was chicken. Stepping out of my comfort zone is not easy. But there is something about this family that drew me close to them. Is it that we are italian? Is it that we both understand the importance of family? Is it the close bond of this mother and her daughters? I can't pinpoint the exact reason, but I said yes.
I am so glad I did.
I was blessed to not only photograph Ali and Craig's engagement session, but i also captured moments at Ali's bridal shower, the rehearsal and dinner and then the wedding.
With each meeting, email message and event I felt closer and closer to this family. Heck, by the day of the wedding, I was feeling like my niece was walking down the aisle. And yes, I did shed a tear to two that day.
Ali and Craig are two beautiful people that have brought two beautiful families together.
Can't wait to follow their journey!
